  • Transfer Roll

    A printer transfer roll is a component in your office's laser printers that transfers images onto paper. The component also collects any excess toner and routes it to a waste reservoir so the ink doesn't collect inside of your printer. Made of rubber and metal, the transfer roll is a user-serviceable part you can clean or replace. The transfer roll works along with your printer's toner cartridges, drum and fuser to complete the printing process.

    The transfer roll sits beyond the drum and before the fuser. As paper moves through your laser printer, it passes through each component to complete the printing process. The drum receives the image/text elements from your computer and adds in toner, and the paper is then sent to the transfer roll. If the transfer roll is not working properly, images and text are not placed on the paper. The fuser is a heating and pressure component that adheres the images and text onto the paper after the transfer roll placed the elements on the paper. Your laser printer cannot work without a transfer roll.

    In color laser printers, the transfer roll is known as a transfer belt, and does the same job as the transfer roll. The belts are also known as transfer assemblies on certain model color laser printers.
